At the bottom of the quarry is the Chinese Pagoda, inspired by Mr. Congreve’s time in China and built in the mid-1980s from teak with a fiberglass roof. The garden’s terraces and walls were built from the quarry’s stone. Highlights include a Magnolia Cambellia walk planted in 1969 and a kilometre-long hydrangea macrocarpa walk under-planted with hostas. A memorable story recounts a tractor falling into the quarry decades ago. The path continues toward a waterfall on the right.
