Green street po med res

Old Post Office

If you look at the walls of this unassuming building you will notice it has two different colors of brick. The pillars consist of older bricks and what had been the windows in between have since been bricked over in a newer brick. It is presently a prominent music recording studio known as Sound Mirror which was founded in 1972. The PBS show “From the Top” is recorded by them. They have also won numerous Grammy awards (in 2020 their website says 123 Grammy nominations and awards).

However, the building was built as a post office. It was the first building specifically constructed for that purpose in Jamaica Plain. This building has always remained commercial, unlike the school which has undergone adaptive reuse. In the image of these proud postal employees you can see the original configuration of the building.
