They always bury you with your head facing the east so these must be footstones. This is the oldest readable stone in here, not the oldest but the oldest readable stone. It’s 1890 and it says “Loving husband of Georgia Ward.” My theory is that Mrs. Ward is up here someplace or that it was just the 2 of them and when she passed away there was no one to take care of her like she did with him. It is a beautiful gravestone regardless.
