Looking out the West entrance you’ll see the Rapture of the Human Spirit. This bronze sculpture was donated to the citizens of Euless by the Euless Library Foundation (ELF) in August 1997. ELF has an over-20-year history of providing public art to enrich and enhance our community. We will point out other contributions from ELF throughout the tour.
Rapture of the Human Spirit depicts three children, approximately ages 5, 10 and 15 years old, reading books outdoors on a quilt. Each child is in a pose characteristic to his or her age. The 5-year-old girl is balanced on her knees; the 10-year-old girl is daydreaming about what she has just read; and the 15-year-old boy is sitting in a casual, relaxed position. The sculpture is viewable from a full 360 degrees.
If you turn and look out the East Entrance you’ll see a man sitting on a bench with his dog. In January, 1999, the second bronze sculpture joined the first at the entrance to the library. It was just like yesterday…” depicts a gentleman reminiscing about his youth and remembering what it was like as he was growing up. The model for the gentleman on the bench was Lloyd Baldwin, longtime ELF member and library supporter, so the sculpture is commonly referred to as “Mr. Baldwin.”
