At the Passover Dinner

It’s been three years since Jesus rescued you and you’ve been following him ever since. He truly is as wonderful as you hoped he would be. He is so perfect you’ve started to believe he’s not just human, he could be the Messiah, the one God promised He would send to save the world!
Lately though, he’s been talking as if he’s going to leave. But...he just can’t leave! You worry you might find yourself in the middle of another ocean, but this time without any hope. How will he save us if He leaves? He says he’ll come back, but you’ve had so many people walk out on you that you’re starting to have doubts.
You’ve just finished having the annual Passover meal with Jesus and his companions, remembering when God rescued His people Israel from the oppression of Egypt many, many centuries ago. It’s a whole weekend celebration of God’s goodness and faithfulness! But you don’t feel festive at all - your heart is weighed down by your doubts and fears.
You snap out of your thoughts as you hear Jesus start speaking. You hear him say, “Don’t let your hearts be anxious; Believe in God's goodness and also trust in mine. I know you are worried that I have to leave, but the greatest love requires the greatest sacrifice, and I love you, my friends, greatly. You will be sorrowful when I leave, but your sorrow will turn into joy when I come see you again and no one will take your joy from you. This world is full of catastrophe, injustice, disease, and heartache. But take heart, be encouraged, because I have overcome this world. In My victory you can have peace greater than what this world knows how to give.”
You lean back in your seat. You desperately want to trust him...but you don’t want to get hurt again. You have one too many scars from people you loved stabbing you in the back. Is it worth the risk?
Have you experienced a betrayal from someone you love to then lose your faith in God? Know that God sees your pain and grieves with you. He is near the brokenhearted. God is not a man that He would lie, He loves you perfectly without any condition. Now is the time to trust your heart to Him.
