Locomobile relied heavily on racing to promote its automobiles in the early 1900s. In 1908, the number 16 Locomobile won the Vanderbilt Cup Race. It was the first American car to win an international race. It had a massive engine and light frame and could reach a speed of 100 miles per hour.
This Locomobile Model E was also built in 1908, though it is not a racer. This 1908 Locomobile is a touring car with a gas-powered engine. The right-hand drive Locomobile has been featured in the Horseless Carriage Club Gazette and won an award in California.
