Seper was the third portrait sitter of my day and painting him was one of the best experiences I had in this project. We talked a lot about our pasts and our artistic histories. What touched me most was his gratitude when he saw his finished painting. Before I showed him, I was very happy with how it came out, and I, Mets fan that I am, was particularly happy with the way the Phillies cap looks. New York is where I’m from but Philadelphia is my home and I was very proud of how I rendered the Phillies cap. After he saw the painting, he told me that this was his lucky Phillies cap which made the painting even more special to me. I like to think of this painting as my lucky Phillies cap and I featured this painting in much of the printed literature for this show.
