World War II - Omaha Beach 1944

The 8th image is Operation Neptune, 1944, Omaha Beach.   On June 6th, 1944, the Allied Expeditionary Force, under the supreme command of General Dwight D Eisenhower, invaded Western Europe with the landings made at Normandy France.    The image depicts Troops and crewmen aboard a Coast Guard manned LCVP, as it approaches a Normandy beach on D-Day.  The US Coast Guard photograph is now in the collections at the National Archives.
