Above the altar in St George’s Chapel is another Kempe window, dating from before the death of Kempe. This does not have his usual wheatsheaf insignia, but instead contains glorious green peacock feathers on each side of the central figures - this was another favourite device used by Kempe.
Here we have St Michael the Archangel killing the dragon (representing the devil) which struggles at his feet. Monograms of the Virgin Mary are scattered around the figure. The window recalls a family tragedy, being in memory of Jane, wife of George Bright Footner, who died in March 1895 and their son Arthur who died just a month earlier. The window was erected in 1897.
