In the next chapel, St Mary’s, we have a slightly later Clayton and Bell window, made in 1879.
This nativity window shows the Adoration of the Shepherds.
The two quatrefoils at the top of the window show the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet - the beginning and the end. Together they represent The Lord.
The window was installed in memory of George Bright Footner 1801 -1879. The Footner family were significant in the town of Romsey as wine merchants, bankers and solicitors.
The London-based glassmakers Clayton and Bell flourished from 1855 until 1993. At the time they designed this window they employed a workforce of about 300.
