Fancy Fibers introduces Fancy.
Designed by: Mary Berry, Joan Leonard, Colleen Vanderbilt, Kristen Stebbins and Marlene Calame.
The owner, Mary Berry shares a bit of insite about the dress fabrication.
Fancy Fibers is proud to present our model, Fancy, dressed for an evening on the town in her Dancing Dress. She embodies all the skills Mary teaches at Fancy Fibers: spinning, weaving, dyeing, and rug hooking. Each piece of her dress was hand made by members of Wednesday Weaving Women, a group of Mary’s former students who meet each Wednesday to weave beautiful fabric and friendships. Another group also meets at Fancy Fibers to spin wool, alpaca, and silk fiber as well as tall tales!
Fancy’s underdress is made of the finest cotton, ice dyed in swirling patterns. The bodice of her dress is a gorgeous ice dyed rayon wrap with beaded fringe. Her fur collar is hand spun wool and other natural fibers. Her scarf is hand dyed silk.
The skirt of the dress is made up of a variety of handwoven fabrics that represent a wide range of weaving skills from plain weave through the more complicated and decorative Overshot panel. The panels are made up of wool, silk, cotton, metallic, and bamboo yarns. Her belt is inkle woven of brightly colored cotton.
Fancy is waiting for her date on a hooked rug from her colorful and beautifully decorated home. She will no doubt have a wonderful time in her Dancing Dress. Come to Fancy Fibers to see more examples of beautiful fiber arts!
