What’s That Made Of?

Look through the glass at the big chairs and furniture to see how dentist’s offices used to look. What do you see?

The tools we use in the dentist’s clinic have changed over time. Some tools used to have wooden handles from trees, or ivory handles made from animals. Most tools today are plastic or metal. Metal tools are easier to clean, with fewer places for germs to hide. Clean tools help us keep our teeth healthy.

Think about all the different materials you can see in these exhibits. What are they? Can you name one or two different things that these tools and decorations are made of? Could you name five?

Can you find something that looks like it’s made of wood? Maybe you even see different types and colors of wood.
