Jennie Kollock Hilton was the first female dentist to graduate from University of Michigan Dental School in 1881. Hilton was a staunch advocate for women's suffrage and a proponent of women's education and professional careers. Hilton frequently had to defend her capability as a dentist to other male professionals that doubted women's abilities.
