Curtis volunteered to sit for a portrait and I am so glad that he did. In Curtis’s portrait, I wanted a yellowish background and I just started blocking in some color when I realized I liked the patterns I was making so I decided not to fill in the background uniformly. As Curtis observed, he felt he looked like an African prince and I couldn’t agree more. In talking with him, he told me his middle name is Leroy, which, of course, is derived from LeRoy, or the King. How fitting Curtis Leroy should feel his is depicted as royalty.
