I love this painting. I’ve known Jason since the opening of the Pier. He’s a talented musician I know as part of the Tiny Room for Elephants art collective. It wasn’t by design, but around this time, I purchased some acrylic paint markers which I intuited could be well used to make the circles needed to illustrate his great beads. Once I put down the fiery yellow background playing off of his red beard, I feel like somewhere in my unconscious I must have been trying to mimick Vincent Van Gogh’s painting of Joseph Roulin. I also love painting hoodies. So Jason had it all going on. Beard. Beads. Hoodie. And his great personality.
