Dr. Thomas Graeme

Dr. Graeme was William Keith's son-in-law, having married Keith's stepdaughter in 1719. He purchased Fountain Low in 1739 and renamed it Graeme Park, the name it bears today. Dr. Graeme, who served as the port physician in Philadelphia and was a consulting doctor at the newly established Pennsylvania Hospital, envisioned Graeme Park as a country gentleman's summer retreat, and set about improving both the Keith House and the grounds. Within the mansion he installed fine Georgian panelling, which is still in existence today with much of it retaining its original coat of paint. He created formal gardens, a deer park for hunting, and planted field crops and orchards.
