Reflecting

While there’s no formula for a good sunset photograph of the Manhattan Beach pier, there are a few necessary components. When the sky is clear, the colors of the glow after sunset just seem deeper and more saturated. Calm wind is another important ingredient, particularly for a good reflection. And if it’s a reflection you’re looking for, ideally you need a really low tide to happen at the same time as the sunset. There are many months of the year that this just doesn’t happen. So, when all of these elements came together as they did just after New Year’s Day in 2022, I was treated to near-perfect conditions.
