The Outreach team received word of an elderly couple weathering several non-COVID health issues. Edith and Herb were getting by, but they were unable to leave their home. Through talking with them, the team learned Edith could not stand at the stove long enough to cook, or even boil a kettle of water for her tea. The Outreach Staff set up a contactless delivery system, coordinating drop offs with neighbors’ schedules as Edith and Herb were unable to bring in groceries themselves. They brought plenty of frozen meals, healthy snacks, and of course plenty of boxes of tea. They even bring flowers! Edith calls the Outreach team often just to chat, and recently said, “if I could, I would give you a hug, and when I can, I will!”
After every drop off, the team received a lovely thank you call from Edith. She says she looks forward to the food drop offs just as much as their phone chats. One day, she shares that Herb is in hospice and that makes her very sad. But receiving the carefully thought out deliveries and kind phone calls makes her very happy!
