Ferry Road, Lovat memorial Garden and traditional estate cottages

As I am sure you guessed, Ferry road leads to the river and the site of where the ferry used to run before the construction of the present day bridge, about a mile out of the village. Turning right, down Ferry Road, you will see the Lovat memorial garden that was planted to commemorate Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat, a distinguished hero of the World War II Normandy Landings. Accompanied by his bagpiper, Lord Lovat led his men onto the beaches and held an important bridge head which helped secure the Allies' precarious hold on France.

On the left hand side of Ferry road there is a row of cottages built by Lovat estates, and rented to their tenants. Typical of so many Highland estate villages, these small houses with good sized gardens have made comfortable dwellings for over a century.

On the right hand side are more substantial villas, built in the Victorian period.

At the end of the Ferry Road and its junction with Riverside Drive, cross the street to the iron fence where you will get a great view of the river Beauly.

We will then be turning left to walk along the riverside.
