1901 Curved Dash Oldsmobile

The iconic Curved Dash Oldsmobile represents the awakening of America to the concept of the automobile, as well as the dawn of mass appeal and nationwide sales. Manufactured by the Oldsmobile Motor Works of Detroit Michigan, the gasoline-powered 1901 Curved Dash Olds has a single cylinder engine, tiller steering, leaf springs and a chain drive. The Curved Dash Oldsmobile was the first American car to be mass-produced rather than hand-crafted. Future car makers would employ methods of mass production, but in 1901, mass production of automobiles was a concept very ahead of its time. The curved dash resembles horse-drawn carriages of old. A story is told of a fire at the Olds Motor Works, which destroyed all vehicles but one: the tiny 1901 Curved Dash Oldsmobile. The 120-year-old Curved Dash Oldsmobile: automobile icon, leader in American automobile mass production, early example of the horseless carriage, "The Best Thing on Wheels."
