I painted LaWanda twice. This is the second painting I did of her. Here’s what I learned about the first time I painted her. The first time, I got so into our conversation, I think I overstimulated the left side of my brain to the detriment of the right side which should have been looking at and observing her face. When I held my camera up to the first portrait I did of her, I could see that I was far away from her likeness. LaWanda did me the courtesy of giving me a second chance at a later date and this is the result. I love this portrait of her. LaWanda is the wife of Acori Honzo, my gifted colleague downstairs in Studio 7. You should definitely check out his work. He is the hardest working artist at the Cherry Street Pier.
