Lapping at the Peak consists of over 15 miles of colored bead ball chain.
The artwork in the lobby of the Ent Center for the Arts is titled Lapping at the Peak and was created by Ball Nogues Studio. The studio’s manufacturing and design practice blends fine art, industrial design, and architecture. The studio is known for creating site-specific installations, such as this one. The rise and fall of the beaded chain mirror the peaks of the mountains visible outside the window.
The studio, founded by Benjamin Ball and Gaston Nogues, has exhibited at institutions around the world including the Museum of Modern Art, The Guggenheim Museum, the Venice Biennale, and the Beijing Biennale.
One percent of the construction funds for the Ent Center was dedicated to this piece of public artwork. This means that this Lapping at the Peak is a permanent feature of the building, unlike the other artworks on this tour which are exhibited at the Ent Center for the Arts temporarily in coordination with GOCA’s Art WithOut Limits program.
